Ok, here we go!
Here’s my long-awaited (apparently!) blog update…hm, I think I’ll just go from most recent on back…that seems to be the way that my mind works, anyway…

First off, I got my hair totally Japan-ed out today. I mean, look at this…I’ve never felt more prepared to pilot a gigantic robot in my entire life. Or, I dunno, maybe save the entire plant with a short, clear song and a single tear. Something.

I also started to read Battle Royale. They had the English version at the local bookstore, and since I’m a pretty big fan of the movie I decided to take the plunge. The basic story is that a totalitarian government forces a junior high class to fight to the death in a bizarre militaristic training exercise. It’s written in a really interesting style, which might just be a result of the difficulty in translating Japanese writing into English. Anyway, the book’s better, I think – a lot more thoughtful, I think, and less pure exploitation. Quite critical of Japan…it takes place in an alternate future where Japan didn’t lose WWII, and becomes really fascistic instead.

Hm...let’s see, what else? Oh, I finally made it to Nikko with my class. It was really beautiful – the leaves are all changing, many stones and columns, most tranquil. Pretty hard to take pictures of, I think, because there’s just too much of it. I gave it a shot anyway.

Oh, and I’m going to see Underworld at Makuhari Messe in Chiba in 2 weeks. Huzzah!

Almost forgot…took this picture at a McDonald’s in Shibuya. Isn’t it the scariest thing ever?

Cool that you got to hit Nikko and see the ol' Toshogu (I think that's what it's called anyway). Your hair is definitely Japanified.
